The CFB-HSG is an international center focusing on research, teaching, and executive education in the context of family firms. Thereby, these three pillars represent a self-inforcing circle so that none of the activties has to be seen in separation.

Main activities

Our main activities lie in the fields of research on family firms, as well as teaching and executive education for persons that plan to be or already are either directly involved in family firms or working as consultants and service providers for family firms.

  • Global succession study

    "Coming Home or Breaking Free" shows interesting insights on how succession intentions of the next gen vary within 34 countries.

  • Best Paper Award - EURAM 2015

    We are glad to announce that Michael Gaska has received the Best Paper Award of the EURAM for his dissertation with the title "Financial Challenges of Family Businesses and Entrepreneurial Families".

  • Further publication success for the CFB-HSG

    "Doing more with less: Innovation input and output in family firms" by Patricio Duran, Nadine Kammerlander, Marc van Essen and Thomas Zellweger has been accepted for publication in Academy of Management Journal.
    Additionally, the paper "Failure or Voluntary Exit: Reassessing the Female Underperformance Hypothesis", co-authored by Prof. Philipp Sieger will be published in the Journal of Business Venturing.

  • Global Family Business Index online

    We are delighted to present our Global Family Business Index in cooperation with EY, comprising the largest 500 family firms around the globe.
    Please, also have a look on the publication by Forbes revolving around our index.

  • New Publications in "Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice"

    The article "Family, wealth, and governance: an agency account" by Thomas Zellweger and Nadine Kammerlander has been accepted for publication.

    Also, the paper "How much am I expected to pay for my parents’ firm? An institutional logics perspective on family discount" by Thomas Zellweger, Melanie Ganter, Philipp Sieger and Pankaj Patel will be published.

  • CFB is celebrating its 10th anniversary

    Our Center for Family Business has been established on January, 1, 2005 and has emerged as a major player on European level for research, teaching and executive education within the field of family business.
