The CFB-HSG is an international center focusing on research, teaching, and executive education in the context of family firms. Thereby, these three pillars represent a self-inforcing circle so that none of the activties has to be seen in separation.

Top 25 business schools for family business in the world
The University of St.Gallen ranked in the top 25. A particular reward for our CFB.

Hosting Prof. Bill Schulze at our CFB
From 8.3. to 8.6. we will host Prof. William Schulze as visiting professor at our center. He is researching on entrepreneurship and family businesses. Bill will further offer the doctoral seminar "Toward a theory of the closely held firm".

Main activities

Our main activities lie in the fields of research on family firms, as well as teaching and executive education for persons that plan to be or already are either directly involved in family firms or working as consultants and service providers for family firms.

  • Prof. Marc van Essen rewarded

    We are glad to announce that Marc has been awarded with the Best Reviewer Award 2016 of Corporate Governance: An International Review (CGIR).

  • Emerald Citations of Excellence

    The paper “Why do family firms strive for nonfinancial goals? An organizational identity perspective” by Thomas Zellweger et al. has been selected as a winning paper in the prestigious Emerald Citations of Excellence for 2016.

  • Research cited in the Economist

    We are glad to announce that our research on family businesses has been cited in the Economist.

  • Jürgen-Hauschildt-Preis for our institute

    This year's Jürgen-Hauschildt-Price for the best innovation management article goes to Thomas Zellweger, Nadine Kammerlander and Marc van Essen for the paper "Doing more with less: Innovation input and output in family firms".

  • Publication in Journal of Management

    Have a look on this contribution to the topic of socioemotional wealth by Thomas Zellweger, Luis Gomez-Mejia and Pankaj Patel.

    "The Impact of Shared Stories on Family Firm Innovation: A Multi-Case Study" by Kammerlander, Dessi, Bird, Floris and Murru accepted for publication in Family Business Review.

  • Global succession study

    "Coming Home or Breaking Free" shows interesting insights on how succession intentions of the next gen vary within 34 countries.

  • Best Paper Award - EURAM 2015

    We are glad to announce that Michael Gaska has received the Best Paper Award of the EURAM for his dissertation with the title "Financial Challenges of Family Businesses and Entrepreneurial Families".
